Throughout the five boroughs comprising the city are world-famous attractions including the United Nations, the Empire State Building, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Yankee and Shea stadiums, the Staten Island Ferry, to cite just a few. In Brooklyn, you will be enthralled by the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, a 52-acre urban oasis of specialty gardens. At Coney Island, Astroland Amusement Park, you can choose from one of 25 rides including the famous Cyclone roller coaster. On Staten Island, visit Snug Harbor Cultural Center. This 83-acre harbor park, preserved as a unique center for the arts, contains 28 historic buildings and offers a broad range of programs and events. Cultural organizations sharing the property include the Staten Island Children’s Museum and the Staten Island Botanical Garden, a working educational and recreational center with bird and butterfly exhibits. In Queens, see thoroughbred racing at the Aqueduct Race Track. Visit Queens Botanical Garden, 39 acres of outstanding seasonal floral displays; or the Isamu Noguchi Garden Museum, 250 works on the site of this world-renowned sculptor’s studio; or the Queens Historical Society located in the circa 1785 National Historic Landmark Kingsland Homestead. If you prefer to be outdoors, bask in the sun at Rockaway’s 12 miles of beaches and boardwalk, or at Fort Tilden, a lovely beach known for its dunes. At Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, explore the habitat of more than 300 species of birds.
